Swim Places Third at Skyline Championships, Five Eagles on All-Skyline Team

PURCHASE, N.Y. - Sophomore Lauren Becerra enjoyed a record-setting evening while winning three individual events, and freshmen Allison Sciucco and Regina Zeoli notched two victories apiece as Mount Saint Mary seized its third consecutive Skyline Women's Swimming Championship on Thursday evening on the campus of Purchase College. 

On the men's side, junior Daniel Hemmer and freshman Robert Lewis won two events apiece as Maritime claimed its seventh consecutive Skyline title.

Becerra posted a meet-record time of 5:29.53 in the 500-yard freestyle and also placed first in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:20.84) and 200-yard individual medley (2:22.29) events en route to being named the Most Outstanding Performer at the Championship for the second consecutive year.  Sciucco captured gold in the 50-yard (26.57) and 100-yard freestyle 57.92) events, while Zeoli earned victories in both the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.20) and 200-yard backstroke (2:22.75) for the Knights, who seized their fourth Skyline crown in five seasons. 

MSMC led the way with 139 points, followed by Purchase (58), St. Joseph's-L.I. (50), Mount Saint Vincent (48), Maritime (29) and Old Westbury (28).     

Purchase junior Amanda Gibson garnered Rookie of the Year honors as she placed first in both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke events while finishing runner-up in the 200-yard individual medley. 

Hemmer placed first in both the 100-yard (55.78) and 200-yard butterfly (2:15.42) competitions, while Lewis took home gold in the 500-yard (5:29.50) and 1,000-yard (11:22.93) freestyle events to lead the Privateers to the league crown.  Maritime amassed 129 points on the evening, while Mount Saint Mary compiled 95 points, followed by Purchase (61), Old Westbury (47) and Mount Saint Vincent (8). 

Junior Bryan Woodhead of Old Westbury was tabbed the Championship's Most Outstanding Performer for the second consecutive year as he registered a blistering meet-record time of 59.24 in the 100-yard breaststroke and also earned gold in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events. 

The Rookie of the Year honor was shared by teammates Sam Jaffe and Andrew Latona of Purchase.  Jaffe established a Championship record in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.91), while Latone placed first in the 20-yard backstroke in a meet-record time of 1:56.75.  

Danielle Lindner of Mount Saint Mary was named the Men's and Women's Coach of the Year.
