St. Joseph's Finishes as Runner-Up at Sarah Lawrence Carnival

Bronxville, N.Y. — The Golden Eagles affirmed their prowess on Saturday at the Sarah Lawrence College Sprint Carnival, earning second place with a score of 195, bested only to the home team (218). With this stellar performance, St. Joseph's College successfully beat out Brooklyn College (85), F.I.T. (85), St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn (33) and the College of New Rochelle (21).

Jenna Birkmire (Shoreham, N.Y./ Shoreham-Wading River) led her teammates with three independent first place wins for the 200 Yard IM (2:26:84), the 50 Yard Backstroke (30.93) and the 200 Yard Freestyle (2:07:88).

SJC's "A" team — Lorraine Diehl (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./ Sachem North), Melissa Nocco (Holbrook, N.Y./ Sachem North), Kimberly Mazza (Bohemia, N.Y./ Connetquot) and Brikmire — came in second place with a time of 2:11.57 in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. The "A" team also placed third in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay.

SJC was well represented in the 100 Yard Butterfly with Brikmire (1:06.62) and Mazza (1:17.85) coming in second and third place, respectively. Mazza (1:03.39) and Nocco (1:04.70) came in second and third place, respectively, in the 100 Yard Freestyle.

Nocco earned first place in the 100 Yard IM with a time of 1:15.69 while Marissa Palmeri (East Islip, N.Y./ East Islip) came in third on the same event. Brianna Minogue earned second place in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:08.95. Palmeri's time of 41.69 earned her second place in the 50 Yard Breaststroke.

The Golden Eagles will travel to the College of New Rochelle on Saturday for a 1 p.m. meet.
