Hunter Hawks Fly Past Golden Eagles in Friday's Swim Meet

New York, N.Y. — The Golden Eagles (3-1, SKY 2-0) fell to Hunter College (3-0) on Friday, 71-50, in their sixth meet of the season. Jenna Birkmire (Shoreham, N.Y./ Shoreham-Wading River) dominated her opponents with a total of four first place finishes over the course of the competition.

Birkmire affirmed her prowess with first place finishes in the 1000 Yard Freestyle (11:52.15), the 50 Yard Freestyle (26:55), and the 200 Yard Backstroke (2:22.56). In addition, SJC's "A" team — which includes Birkmire, Gabrielle Zollo (West Islip, N.Y./ West Islip), Melissa Nocco (Holbrook, N.Y./ Sachem North) and Kim Mazza (Bohemia, N.Y./ Connetquot) — finished in first place in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 4:08.56.

Nocco also earned a first place finish of her own in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 6:13.93. Lorraine Diehl (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./ Sachem North) and Alexis Donin (Setauket, N.Y./ Ward Melville) had a one-two finish in the 200 Yard IM with times of 2:50.79 and 3:34.53, respectively.

The Eagles will be on the road on Friday for a Skyline conference dual meet against Sarah Lawrence and Maritime College.
