Women’s Swimming Suffers Non-Conference Defeat to Hunter

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's swimming team dropped a 116-73 decision to Hunter College in a non-conference meet inside the Danzi Center on Friday evening. With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 3-2 on the season while the Hawks improve to 2-0.
Senior Kimberly Mazza earned St. Joseph's first first-place finish of the meet in the third event, the 200 yard free, with a time of 2:14.26. In the meet's seventh event, the 100 yard free, Mazza took first again, posting a 1:01.70 time to top Hunter's Shannon Lyver by fewer than three seconds.
The Golden Eagles' only other first-place finish came in the 200 yard freestyle relay, in which Julie Garvey, Lorraine Diehl, Gabrielle Zollo and Mazza clocked in at 1:56.56.
Garvey would earn a third-place finish in the 100 yard free with a time of 1:09.69.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, November 20, when they host conference rivals SUNY Maritime and Sarah Lawrence. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM inside Danzi Center.
