Women’s Swimming Upended by Purchase on Senior Day

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's swimming team suffered a 110-82 defeat to SUNY Purchase in a Skyline Conference meet on Saturday afternoon.  With the loss, the Golden Eagles fall to 4-4 on the season and 3-3 in conference play.

Following a ceremony celebrating the careers of seniors Alexis Donin and Kim Mazza, the SJC 200 yard medley relay team of Lorraine Diehl, Marissa Palmeri, Gabrielle Zollo and Mazza earned a second-place finish (2:12.86) in the meet's first event.

Diehl would capture the Golden Eagles' first first-place finish in the next event, the 1000 yard free, with a time of 13:02.57. Mazza earned another first place finish in the 200 yard free (2:12.12).

Other first-place finishes for the Golden Eagles would come courtesy of Zollo in the 100 yard butterfly (1:07.49) and Diehl in the 100 yard backstroke (1:14.46).

Mazza also placed second in the 100 yard free (1:01.38), while Donin's highest finish came in the 100 yard backstroke (3rd, 1:35.68).

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, December 4, when they travel to Mt. St. Mary to compete in a Skyline Conference double-duel with the Knights and SUNY Maritime.
