USMMA Upends Women's Swimming, 117-75

Kings Point, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's swimming squad suffered a 117-75 loss to the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) in a non-conference meet in the O'Hara Pool Saturday afternoon.  The loss drops St. Joseph's to four-consecutive losses in their final four match ups, finishing their season with a 4-6 overall record (3-5 Skyline) before heading to the Skyline Championships.  The Skyline Championships will be a two-day event held at Maritime College on January 29-30.

In the Golden Eagles final meet of the regular season, senior Kimberly Mazza was the highlight of the day, finishing with two second place finishes in the 100 yard and 200 yard IM with times of 1:02.88 and 2:34.17, respectfully. Mazza also aided her team with a second-place finish in the 200 yard medley relay with a final time of 2:13.98.  

Sophomore Marissa Palmeri complimented Mazza's strong outing by placing second in the 1000 yard freestyle (13:25.69) and third in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:27.54).

Catherine Peralta, Rainey Diehl, Sara Viola, and Palmeri teamed up to earn St. Joseph's lone first place victory of the meet in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a final  time of 1:56.03—more than nine seconds faster than the home team.
