Women's Swimming 5th After Day One of Skyline Championships

Purchase, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's swimming team wrapped day one of the Skyline Conference Championships in fifth place with a total of 36 points on Friday evening and will enter day two one point behind host SUNY Purchase.

The Golden Eagles kicked off the championships with a fifth-place finish in the 200 medley relay when the team of Aileen Baker, Kim Mazza, Gabrielle Zollo and Samantha Mullman posted a season-best time of 2:05.15 to earn 20 points for SJC.

Mazza went on to scoop up nine points when she bested her seed time in the 1,000 yard freestyle and earned a sixth-place finish (12:09.19).

Zollo and Mullman scooped up two and one point, respectively, with 10th and 11th-place finishes in the 200 yard freestyle. Zollo's 2:08.31 time set a new program record, and Mullman finished shortly thereafter with a 2:08.66 time.

Baker (1:12.37) and Lorraine Diehl (1:14.24) established season-best times in the backstroke but finished outside the top 12. Also beating their seed times were Marissa Palmeri (1:24.46, 15th) in the 100 yard breaststroke and Zollo (27.65, 11th) in the 50 yard free.

Day two begins Saturday, January 28 at 1:00 PM with the second half of the championship program.
