Women's Tennis Blanks Yeshiva, 9-0

Patchogue, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College women's tennis team (8-3, 3-2 Skyline) defeated the Maccabees of Yeshiva University (2-4, 1-4 Skyline), 9-0, to move into third place in the Skyline Conference.

Juniors Nancy Marroquin (Patchogue, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) and Katie Soeder (Patchogue, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) started the day off with 8-0 doubles win.  Marroquin came back later in the day to win singles in the first slot, 6-1, 6-2. In second singles, Soeder blanked her opponent in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.

Senior Katelyn Dorsey (Farmingville, N.Y. / Sachem East) and freshman Cristina Valente (Medford, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) teamed up for a doubles win, 8-1. They each recorded wins in straight sets in singles as well. Freshman Kelley McGrath (Nesconset, N.Y. / Sachem North) and senior Maria Semertzides (Sayville, N.Y. / Sayville) won in third doubles, 8-1, and fifth and sixth singles, respectively.

The next match for the Lady Eagles is Saturday, October 20th, at The Sage Colleges (8-4, 2-2 Skyline).  Last season St. Joseph's shut out the Gators with a 9-0 victory. This marks the final match for the women before the start of the Skyline Conference Tournament.
