Press Release from the Skyline Conference

New York, NY – Sophomore Kirsten Ackerman of Sage has been named the 2012 Skyline Women's Tennis Player of the Year in voting conducted among the Conference's seven head coaches.

The Skyline coaches also selected Morgan Holbrook of Mount Saint Mary as Rookie of the Year and Farmingdale State's Adam Waterhouse as Coach of the Year.  In addition, Yeshiva received the Team Sportsmanship Award.

Ackerman is a perfect 13-0 in dual matches at the No. 1 singles flight and was 6-0 in league matches.  The Guilderland, NY., resident has not lost a set in dual match singles competition in 2012 and boasts a 7-1 record at No. 2 doubles for the year.  She was named the Skyline Player of the Week three times this season.

Holbrook is 12-0 on the year at No. 2 singles and 6-0 at No. 2 doubles as she helped lead Mount Saint Mary to a perfect 12-0 overall record and its fourth consecutive league title.  The Montgomery, NY., native was a six-time Rookie of the Week selection and was tabbed the Most Outstanding Player of the 2012 Skyline Championship after posting a combined 4-0 record in singles and doubles competition in the Knights' wins over Purchase and Farmingdale State.

Holbrook is joined on the All-Conference first team by Gabriela Murphy-Goldberg of Mount Saint Mary; Farmingdale State's Alex Bentz and Jessica Sickles; Mackenzie Riley of Sage; and Katelyn Dorsey of St. Joseph's-L.I.

The second-team All-Conference includes Moriah Ormsby and Melissa Siller of Purchase; Sage's Isabella Pericone; Nancy Marroquin and Katie Soeder of St. Joseph's-L.I.; and Ashlynne O'Brien of Mount Saint Mary.

Now in his sixth season, Waterhouse led Farmingdale State to a 9-5 overall record and a 5-1 mark in league play.  The Rams advanced to the finals of the 2012 Skyline Championship for the first time in program history after their 5-3 semifinal win over St. Joseph's-L.I. on Oct. 24.  A 1984 graduate of Oswego State, Waterhouse had led the FSC women's program to a 36-34 record.
