Women's Tennis Picked Third in Skyline Coaches Poll

Press Release from the Skyline Conference

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Defending champion Mount Saint Mary has been tabbed to capture the 2013 Skyline women's tennis title in voting conducted by the league's six head coaches.

Following a 12-1 campaign that secured their fourth consecutive Skyline crown, the Knights received five first-place votes and compiled 25 overall points, while Farmingdale State earned 21 points and one first-place vote.  MSMC will be led by senior Jaimee Lubniewski, who posted a 5-1 mark at No. 1 doubles and notched a pair of victories at the No. 3 singles position in 2012.

Farmingdale State advanced to the finals of the Skyline Championship for the first time in program annals a year ago and welcomes back first-team All-Conference juniors Alex Bentz and Jessica Sickles.

With the return of second-team All-Conference selections Nancy Marroquin and Katie Soeder, St. Joseph's-L.I. finished third in the voting with 17 points, followed by Purchase (13), Sage (9) and Yeshiva (5).  Sage junior Kirsten Ackerman is the reigning Skyline Player of the Year after boasting a 14-1 singles record last season.

The semifinals of the four-team Skyline Women's Tennis Championship will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 23, with the title match scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 26.
