Women's Tennis Trio Makes 2013 All-Skyline Team

New York, NY – For the second consecutive year, junior Kirsten Ackerman of Sage has been named the Skyline Women's Tennis Player of the Year in voting conducted among the Conference's six head coaches. 

The Skyline coaches also selected Angela Assal of Purchase as Rookie of the Year and Bruce Perry of Sage as Coach of the Year.

Ackerman boasts a 16-2 overall record this season – including a13-1 mark at the No. 1 singles flight in dial competition - and compiled a 4-1 mark in league play.  The Guilderland, NY., resident became the first player in program history to advance to the quarterfinals of the USTA/ITA Northeast Regionals (Sept. 28-30) as she knocked off a pair of seeded players in the tournament.  Ackerman was tabbed the Skyline Player of the Week on five occasions in 2013 and owns an 11-4 record at the No. 1 doubles position.     

Assal is 6-2 overall while holding down the No. 1 singles position this season and owns a 5-3 record at the No. 1 doubles flight.  The Bronx, NY, native was a perfect 3-0 in Skyline play in singles competition and garnered Rookie of the Week distinction on Sept. 30.  The Panthers will face Farmingdale State on Oct. 26 in the finals of the 2013 Skyline Championship. 

Assal is joined on the 2013 All-Conference first team by Nancy Marroquin and Katie Soeder of St. Joseph's-L.I.; Farmingdale State's Jessica Sickles and Priscilla Signore; and Nicole Riley of Sage. 

The second-team All-Conference includes Jaimee Lubniewski and Breanna Scott of Mount Saint Mary; Farmingdale State's Michelle Fredericks; Erin Duffy of Sage; Kelly McGrath of St. Joseph's-L.I.; and Emma Yavel of Purchase. 

Now in his third season, Perry guided Sage to an 8-6 overall record, an improvement of four victories from its 2012 campaign.  The Gators posted a 3-2 mark in conference play and advanced to the semifinals of the Skyline Championship for the first time since 2009.  Perry is a 1971 graduate of Cornell University.
