SJC Remains Perfect Against Skyline with Mt. St. Mary Win

Patchogue, N.Y. – St. Joseph's College's Skyline Conference win streak extends to four games after the Lady Golden Eagles (7-2, 4-0 Skyline) overpower Mount Saint Mary College (3-9, 0-6 Skyline), 8-1, on Monday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles were near perfect in singles play by going 5-1.

All five of St. Joseph's victories came in straight sets. Kelley McGrath (Nesconset, N.Y. / Sachem North) won her match 6-0, 6-1; Rita Wehrli (Medford / Patchogue-Medford) posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory; Kerri Cetin (Centereach, N.Y. / Centereach) defeated her opponent 6-3, 6-0; Erika Hesselbirg (Shirley, N.Y. / William Floyd) tallied 6-2, 6-1; Lindsey Merker (Flanders, N.Y. / McGann-Mercy) recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win.

SJC went 3-0 in doubles play, outscoring the Knights 24-5.  The doubles partners for Monday included: Shannon Merker (Flanders, N.Y. / McGann-Mercy) and Kelly McGrath, Rita Wehrli and Erika Hasselbirg, and Kerri Cetin and Lindsey Merker.

The Lady Eagles will fight to keep their win streak alive as the team travels to face-off against Skyline Conference rivals, Farmingdale State (9-1, 4-0 Skyline) on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
