W. Tennis Goes Down Fighting in Skyline Championship Match

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's tennis team claimed their second consecutive Skyline Championship on Saturday afternoon with a 5-0 victory over No. 2 seed St. Joseph's-L.I. (9-4). The Rams (13-1) now receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Tournament in the spring. Farmingdale State went undefeated in conference play this season, winning every set (64-0) in their eight Skyline matches.

Farmingdale State swept the doubles matches today to hold a 3-0 advantage going into singles play. Senior Jessica Sickles, the Skyline Tournament MVP, teamed up with senior Alex Bentz to post an 8-4 win at #1 doubles. At second doubles, sophomore Priscilla Signore and sophomore Tatiana Rosamilia won 8-3, while at third doubles sophomore Michelle Fredericks and junior Denise Liguori took an 8-1 victory.

In singles play, just two wins were needed to claim the Title. In the #1 spot, Sickles won 6-0, 6-1 over St. Joe's freshman Shannon Merker. The final point was won by Bentz in the #3 spot with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over sophomore Rita Wehrli.

Today's match also marked senior day for FSC seniors Bentz, Sickles and Amanda Vecchio, who played in their final home match of the fall season.

St. Joseph's-L.I. advanced to the finals of the Skyline Championship for the first time since the 2011 campaign.
