Women's Tennis Tops Bard for Second-Straight Win

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's tennis team won their second straight game 7-2 against Bard College on Saturday afternoon at the Outdoor Field Complex.  St. Joseph's are now 2-1 on the season and Bard slides to 0-4.

Victoria Makulik and Michelle Stanczak scored the first team point for the Golden Eagles with a 8-5 win against Harriette Slagle and Lily Schwartz. Rita Wehrli and Vicky Penicola dropped a hard fought battle against Isabelle Scarborough and Amelia Tiemann 7-9, an 8-4 win by Kelley McGrath and Erika Hesselbirg put the Golden Eagles ahead.

Makulik topped Schwartz in the first set 6-2,6-3 before Tiemann rallied in the second set to beat McGrath 2-6,4-6.

Wehrli went to the third set defeating her opponent 6-4,2-6, and 11-9. Hesselbirg then added insurance with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Scarborough.

Panicola and Stanczak wrapped up the victory for the Golden Eagles defeating their opponent in two sets.

Women's tennis will return to the court on Sunday September 20 and 12:00PM at the St. Joseph's College Outdoor Field Complex.
