
Women's Tennis Shines Over Mount Saint Mary 8-1

Newburgh, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's tennis team won its third game in a row, 8-1, on Thursday afternoon at the Kaplan Tennis Courts. The win brings the Golden Eagles record to 11-2 (4-2 Skyline) and the College of Mount St. Mary slides to 3-7 (2-4 Skyline) on the year.
Victoria Makulik and Michelle Stanczak claimed the first point of the match, 8-1, as Rita Wehrli and Victoria Panicola doubled the lead for St. Joseph's as they claimed another doubles point winning their match 8-5. The tandem of Shannon Merker and Kelley McGrath defeated Breanna Scott and Katie Conroy 8-3.
Makulik gave the Golden Eagles their first singles point with a 6-1, 6-0 win, while, Scott handed Merker a 6-0 and a 6-1 defeat in the no. 1 singles slot. Kelly McGrath sealed the deal for SJC winning her set against Alissa Gileau 6-2, 6-2. Panicola continued to dominate on the court defeating Mikayla Zaccaria in straight sets, 6-2,6-1.
Erika Hesselbirg outlasted her opponent 6-2, 6-2 in her match. The final match came from Wherli who took her opponent to a 7-5, 5-7 (7-5) tie-breaker in her win.
