Women’s Tennis Topped by Purchase in Season Finale

West Harrison, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's tennis team was defeated, 5-4, by SUNY Purchase in its regular-season finale on Monday evening.

The loss sends the Golden Eagles (7-3) to 5-1 on in Skyline Conference play and ensures they will enter the playoffs as the second seed. The Panthers remain perfect in Skyline play (6-0) and will serve as the top seed.

SJC swept doubles play, 3-0, as the pairings of Victoria Panicola and Taylor Hanscom (1st doubles), Amanda Post and Nora Burnett (2nd doubles), and Mackenzie Martocci and Alana Caporale (3rd doubles) all picked up victories.

After dropping four-straight singles matches and falling behind 4-3, Hanscom picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win at third singles to keep SJC alive.

The deciding match would be the second singles match, but Panicola was defeated by Purchase's Bianca Harris, 6-2, 4-6, 4-6, and the Golden Eagles dropped a 5-4 decision.

The Golden Eagles return to action later this week when they host Farmingdale State in the semifinal round of the Skyline Conference Championship. Time and date to be determined.
