Women’s Tennis Advances to Skyline Final
Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's tennis team defeated Farmingdale State, 5-2, in the semifinal round of the Skyline Conference championship on Wednesday evening and advances to the final for the fourth time in five seasons.
The second-seeded Golden Eagles improve to 8-3 on the year and meet top-seeded Purchase State, who went 6-0 in Skyline play this season.
The second doubles pairing of Amanda Post and Nora Burnett opened the match with an 8-1 victory, but losses at first and third doubles put the Golden Eagles behind 2-1 early.
Lindsey Charrier's 4-6, 7-6, 6-2 win at sixth singles knotted the match score up at two before the hosts took the lead when Burnett secured a 6-4, 6-3 victory at fourth singles (3-2).
A 6-1, 6-3 win for Victoria Panicola at second singles put the Rams on the ropes, and Mackenzie Martocci's 6-2, 6-4 victory at fifth singles sealed the 5-2 win for the Golden Eagles.
Purchase will host St. Joseph's for the conference final this Saturday, October 20. Time is to be determined. The Panthers defeated the Golden Eagles, 5-4, in the old meeting of the season on October 15.
