Middlebury, VT| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's tennis team will participate in the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Tournament for the first time this Friday when it faces the Stevens Institute of Technology in a first-round match-up at Middlebury College.

SJC earned an automatic bid into the tournament in October when it defeated top-seeded SUNY Purchase, 5-1, in the Skyline Conference Championship final. The victory clinched the Golden Eagles their first-ever Skyline title.

Head coach Glenn Nathan, now in his 15th season at the program's helm, was named Skyline Coach of the Year for the first time since 2003 after guiding his side to a 10-4 overall record and a 5-1 mark in conference play.

St. Joseph's features two Skyline All-Conference First-Team selections in freshman Taylor Hanscom and senior Victoria Panicola. Hanscom, the Skyline Championship Most Outstanding Player, posted a 10-1 singles record during the regular season and an 8-4 mark in doubles play.

Panicola, a four-year letter winner, was 7-4 in singles action and 8-4 in 12 doubles matches in 2019. The senior earned All-Conference marks in all four of her collegiate seasons having appeared on the First-Team and Second-Team twice each.

Juniors Amanda Post and Nora Burnett form SJC's second doubles pairing and feature at first and fourth singles, respectively. Juniors Mackenzie Martocci and Alana Caporale slot in at third doubles and junior Lindsey Charrier will compete at sixth singles.

The Golden Eagles meet a Stevens team that went 10-7 this year with a 7-1 mark in Empire 8 play. After knocking off St. John Fisher in the semifinal round, the second-seeded Ducks upset top-seeded Nazareth, 5-4, in the conference championship final.

Should the Golden Eagles defeat Stevens they would advance to play Tufts University at 12:30 pm in the second round on Saturday, May 11. The regional final will take place on Sunday, May 12 at 12:00 pm.

All matches will be played at either the Proctor Tennis Courts or the Nelson Recreational Center on the campus of Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT.
