Women’s Tennis Topped by Stevens in NCAA Championship First-Round

Middlebury, VT| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's tennis team was defeated, 5-0, by the Stevens Institute of Technology in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship at Middlebury College on Friday afternoon.

With the loss, the Golden Eagles finish their campaign with a 10-5 overall record. The Ducks move to 11-7 and will face Tufts University in the Second Round on Saturday.

Juniors Amanda Post and Nora Burnett took the first doubles loss with an 8-2 defeat at second doubles. Senior Victoria Panicola and freshman Taylor Hanscom, and juniors Mackenzie Martocci and Alana Caporale took 8-4 losses at first and third doubles, respectively.

In singles play, Post took a 6-1, 6-1 defeat at first singles and Panicola dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision at second singles. The pair of losses clinched victory for the Ducks.

SJC won its first-ever Skyline Conference championship on October 20 when it defeated top-seeded SUNY Purchase, 5-1. Their match in Middlebury, VT on Friday was the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
