Lombardi & Zigrosser Lead Track & Field at CTC Relay Carnival

South Huntington, N.Y. - The St. Joseph's College men's and women's track & field teams opened the 2012-2013 indoor season with record breaking times at the CTC Relay Carnival.

MEN
Leading the way on the men's side was senior Michael Lombardi (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) recording a personal best in the 3000m with a time of 9:14.94. Lombardi was third overall and the first Division III athlete to cross the finish line.

The distance medley team of junior Brian Wersan (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North), freshman Mario Mayen (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches), sophomore Kevin Sanders (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham Wading-River) and senior Jonathan Afanador (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue Medford) fought hard crossing the finish line in 11:01.66 and breaking the previous school record by 11 seconds.

Freshman James D'Onofrio (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) made his collegiate debut in the 60m, running a school record time of 7.29.

Freshman Ian Sullivan (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) made his indoor debut competing in the 60M high hurdles and crossing the finish line in 8.94, good for fourth place.

WOMEN

The ladies top performer was sophomore AnnMarie Zigrosser (Bayport, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) finishing third overall in the 3000m to shatter the previous school record in 11:06.57.

The distance medley relay team of freshman Brittany Guttieri (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot), junior Jessica Josema (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford), senior Maureen Quinn (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) and sophomore Mary Cipriano (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) fought hard as they broke the school record, crossing the finish line in 13:41.09.

Zigrosser and Quinn later joined the freshmen duo of Mise Pluvoise (Central Islip, N.Y./Central Islip) and Nakeisha Jackson (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) leading the sprint medley relay team to a fourth place finish with school record time of 4:41.05.

Guttieri, Josema and Cipriano later joined Caitlyn Ryan (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) as the 3200-meter relay crossed the finish line in a school record time of 10:33.51.

The Golden Eagles will return to action this Thursday, December 6 at the Bill Ward Invitational hosted by St. John's University. Competition is slated to kick off at 6:30 p.m. at St. Anthony's High School.
