Relay Team Qualifies for ECAC's at Wesleyan Meet

Middletown, Conn.- The St. Joseph's College men's and women's indoor track & field teams had an impressive day at the Wesleyan University Invitational this Saturday.

WOMEN
For the second straight week, sophomore AnnMarie Zigrosser (Bayport, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) broke her own school record in the 5000m finishing second overall at 19:15.16.

Later, Zigrosser joined the 4x800-meter relay with freshman Brittany Guttieri (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot), junior Caitlyn Ryan (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) and senior Christine Cristobal (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hallow Hills West), finishing second and shattering the previous school record with a time of 10:09.68. This time qualifies the foursome for the ECAC Championships at the beginning of March.

Once again, freshman Samantha Baculy (Farmingville, N.Y./Connetquot) bettered her school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 11.60.

MEN
Junior Brian Wersan (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) broke the 1000m school record in 2:36.54 taking seventh overall.

Freshman Mario Mayen (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) took ninth overall in the 600m breaking the previous school record with a time of 1:27.40.

Senior Jonathan Afanador (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) bettered his indoor 800m at SJC finishing fifth with a time of 2:02.21. Senior Michael Lombardi (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) took second in the 5000m with a career best of 16:17.59.

The Golden Eagles will take a few weeks off and return to Wesleyan University on Saturday, February 9 to compete in the CTC Championships. Competition is slated to being at 9:00 a.m.
