Five Eagles Earn All-CTC Indoor Track Honors at CTC Championship Meet

Middletown, Conn. - The men's and women's indoor track teams competed at the Collegiate Track Conference (CTC) Championships on Saturday at Wesleyan University, headlined by the women posting a competitive 35 points to place eighth overall, falling short of Rutgers-Newark by one point.  The men finished in twelfth place on the day.

Caitlyn Ryan started the women's day off with an impressive finish in the 5000m.  She began in the middle of the pack, but chipped away at her competitors, and by the 1600m mark was in second place behind the leader by nearly 35 seconds.  By the end of the race she had cut the lead in half, finishing second and earning All-CTC Team honors.

Later in the day Ryan was joined by her teammates Brittany Guttieri, Lauren Waka, and Megan Lavery to place sixth in the 4x800 meter relay - with Ryan posting the best split.

Brittany Guttieri and Lauren Waka teamed to place third and sixth respectively in the Mile race that started out at a quick pace.  Guttieri also earned a place on the All-CTC Team for her efforts.

Freshman Ashley Arquer rounded out the All-CTC honors with her third place finish in the Long Jump.

Mary Cipriano (500/4th), Kristina Schrepf (500/8th), and AnnMarie Zigrosser (3000/6th) all earned points to bring the women the most points they have scored in recent history.

The men's team had two scorers at the meet.  Brain Wersan placed second in the Mile with a SJC school record time of 4:30.83.  Mario Mayen ran his best time of the season and was able to take third in the 500m.  Both Wersan and Mayen earned All-CTC status and the point total achieved was the second best for the men in recent history.

Next up for the two teams will be the Molloy Invitational on Valentine's Day.
