Track & Field Competes at CTC Championships as Guttieri Leads Way

Lakewood, N.J. The men's and women's outdoor track & field teams competed in the Collegiate Track Conference Championships (CTC) this past weekend at Georgian Court University. The women scored 14 points as they finished in fourteenth place and the men scored nine points putting them in a fifteenth place finish.

WOMEN

Freshman Brittany Guttieri (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) took second in the 1500m, crossing the finish line at 5:01.62, breaking her previous school record by five seconds and contributing eight points for the team.

Freshman Samantha Maurice (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) took eighth in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:14.05 and contributed one point for the team.

Closing out competition was junior Caitlyn Ryan (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) who took fourth in the 5000m in 19:06.29 and contributed five points for the team.

MEN

Leading the way was senior Michael Lombardi (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) who competed in both the 10000m and 5000m, taking seventh in both events crossing the finish line in 35:14.13 and 16:04.11, respectively. Lombardi's 10000m time breaks his previous school record by thirteen seconds. He contributed four points for the team.

Junior Brian Wersan (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) took seventh in the 800m, crossing the finish line in 1:57.40, breaking his previous school record and contributing two points for the team.

Freshman Mario Mayen took sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in 58.01, contributing three points for the team.

The Golden Eagles will head back to the College of New Jersey on Saturday, April 27 to compete in the Lion's Invitational. Competition is slated to begin at 10:30 a.m.
