Track & Field Concludes Regular Season at NJAC Championships

Glassboro, N.J. - The St. Joseph's College men's and women's outdoor track & field teams competed at the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships on Saturday and Sunday to close out their regular season. The men scored 16 points, finishing in ninth place, and the women scored six points, finishing eighth tied with Rutgers-Camden. Rowan University's women's team captured its second consecutive title while TCNJ claimed its 16th consecutive title.

WOMEN

Senior Maureen Quinn (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) competed in her last event as a collegiate athlete and she ran her career best in the 800m in a time of 2:22.05, finishing eighth overall.

Junior Jessica Josema (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) took seventh in the 400m in a school record time of 1:00.24.

Junior Laeticia Compas (Manorville, N.Y./McGann-Mercy) threw a season best in the javelin and shot put in 14.63m (48-00) and 7.74m (25-04.75), respectively.

Freshman Samantha Maurice (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) ran a career best in the 400 hurdles in 1:10.44, which breaks her previous school record.

Junior Caitlyn Ryan (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) took sixth in the 5000m in 19:02.03.

MEN

Sophomore thrower Michael Sanders (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) threw his career best in the javelin and shot-put with a distance of 38.93m (127-09.00) and 10.68m (35-00.50), respectively.

Freshman Mario Mayen (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) had great day as he took fourth in the 400m, running a career best and ECAC qualifying time of 49.08. Later, Mayen took sixth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 57.46.

Freshman Ian Sullivan (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) took seventh overall in the 110 high hurdles, running a better time of 16.47 in the preliminary round and 17.41 in the finals.

Freshman James D'Onofrio (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) took eighth in the 100m, running a school record time of 11.34 in the preliminary round and 11.43 in the finals.

Freshman Alejandro Morales (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) joined classmates Mayen, Sullivan and D'Onofrio in the 400-meter relay, taking sixth in a school record time of 46.13.

Sophomore Kevin Sanders (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) ran a career best in the 1500m with a time of 4:27.86.

Junior Brian Wersan (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) took fourth in the 800m in a time of 1:57.28.

The men's team will head north to Springfield College in Springfield, Mass. to represent St. Joseph's at the ECAC Championships on Thursday and Friday, May 16-17.
