Track & Field Flies High as they Place Second at USMMA Eight-Way Meet

Kings Point, N.Y. – The Golden Eagles sprung into action and chased after another successful weekend at the USMMA Eight-Way Meet on Sunday, April 12. They return home having scored in nearly every event, breaking a handful of school records and finishing second as a team.

Although a team member ranked in nearly every event SJC competed in, for the women, there were two events that deserve noted attention. Freshman Marissa LoSchiavo (Holbrook, N.Y./ Sachem North) finished off the Steeplechase in first place and sophomore Ashley Arquer (Lindenhurst, N.Y./ Copiague) came in second in the Long Jump, as well as, the 200 Meter.

Arquer also shattered three school records including the 100m (with a time of 12.92), the 200m (with a time of 26.66), and the long jump (scoring 4.89m).

Notable finishes for the men include two second place ranks from junior Mario Mayen (Center Moriches, N.Y./ Center Moriches), in the 800m, and from junior Chris Corrao (Patchogue, N.Y./ Patchogue-Medford), in the Javelin.

Freshman Chris Maher (Shirley, N.Y./ Longwood) set a notable Hammer Throw record scoring 31.15m. With a combined effort, both teams came in second place overall for the meet.

The Golden Eagles compete again in Philadelphia, Pa. at the Penn Relays – the event takes place over three days from Thursday-Saturday, April 23-25.
