Track and Field Hosts SJC Spring Opener on Saturday

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) track and field teams kicked off their spring season with momentum as both the men and women finished off the day with positive results as they hosted its second annual Spring Opener on Saturday afternoon. The Men place in third in the field of 17 (43), as the women claimed first place (99).

On the women's side, Kelly Roberts collected 10 points in her first-place victory in the 800 meter with a 2:30.31 time while Erin MacDonell also claimed first in the 5,000 meter with a 19:27.94 time.

In the 100-meter hurdles both Madelyn Kowalevich (17.32) and Mikayla Kowalevich (17.41) finished in second and fourth, respectively.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Briana Shand, Ashley Arquer, Jennifer Holownia, and Jessica Pierno bested last year's program-record time earning a 52.31 second-place finish. The team raced in the Sprint Medley Relay and had a strong spring start posting a 4:39.10 time.

On the men's side, in his outdoor track and field debut the Suffolk CC transfer Brandon Linbrunner broke 200-meter record crossing the line a 22.98, which was good enough for sixth.

Ryan Haun placed in third after his third-place time of 16:24.08, while the 4x100-meter relay team of Brian Frejka, Mike O'Shea, Brandon Linbrunner, and Daniel Antonawich's second-place time of 45.09 is a new school record.

Linbrunner, Frejka, O'Shea, and Tim Elgort shattered the program record in the Sprint Medley Relay with a 3:47.19 finish.

The Golden Eagles will head back to the track on March 31 for the Ramapo Invitational at Ramapo College at 3:00 PM.
