Pierno Earns Second Place in the Heptathlon at the ECAC Track & Field Championships

Westfield, MA| Jessica Pierno of the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's outdoor track & field team earned a second place in the heptathlon at the ECAC Track & Field Championships hosted by Westfield State University on Wednesday and Thursday.

In the first event, the 100-meter high hurdler, Pierno crossed the line at 18.21 which was good enough for a second place finish.

In the second event, Pierno leapt to a 1.35 meter jump in the high jump earning a third place finish.

The East Patchogue, NY native competed in her best event of the heptathlon, tossing the shot put at a program-record distance of 10.65 meters to earn first place.
In the fourth-event of the heptathlon Pierno raced to a second-place 200-meter dash time of 28.15.

Pierno got off to a first place start in the first event of the second day when she broke the program record in the long jump with a 4.77 leap.

In the women's heptathlon javelin throw, she placed in third with a 25.29-meter throw for the sixth event.

The final event of the heptathlon, the 800m run, Pierno earned a second-place finish, crossing the line at 2:34.19 and missing first place by only .14 seconds.

Pierno's second-place finish in Heptathlon is the highest by any track & field athlete in program history and she became the first female athlete to score at ECAC's. The senior heptathlete (3,677) finished behind first-place finisher Jessie Moore of Brandeis College by just 32 points (3,645). Natalie Hale rounded out the competition with her third-place 3,510 point finish.
