Lady Eagles Fall to Knights in Semis to End Season

Newburgh, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College women's volleyball team's (19-7) season came to an end at the hands of the eventual Skyline Conference Champion Mount Saint Mary Blue Knights (22-11). The Lady Eagles were overwhelmed by the Knights, who went undefeated in conference play during the regular season. The Eagles lost in straight sets - 16-25, 13-25, 20-25.

St. Joseph's struggled with attacks during the match, connecting on only 16.2% of total attacks. Sophomore Melissa Garibaldi (Seaford, N.Y./Island Trees) and freshman Heather Ferchland (Selden, N.Y./Centereach) led the team with seven points. Co-captain Julianne Tierney (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) had 18 assists and co-captain Ashley Larrea (Islip, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) had 10 digs. The Eagles couldn't find an answer for Mount Saint Mary's Mary Ann Raftery - she led all players with 23 points on 19 kills.

The loss marks the second consecutive year the team was eliminated in the semifinals to the eventual champion. In the previous season, they lost to NYU-Poly, 3-0, who went on to win the Skyline Championship.
