Eagles Volleyball Strikes Down Lehman Lightning in Third Straight Win

Patchogue, N.Y. — The SJC Golden Eagles (5-1) squelched the Lehman Lightning (2-6) Tuesday night, taking the match with ease 3-0.

The first set went smoothly for the Lady Eagles, who after a five-point run attained a solid nine-point lead at 17-8. The Lightning finally caught their stride in the last couple plays of the game, answering with their own five-point run, but it wasn't enough to catch the Eagles who took the set 25-12.

The second set went similarly to the first, with SJC asserting their dominance early on and earning themself a comfortable lead. Instead of the Lightning finding their groove late in the game, however, they seemed to only lose steam as a seven-point run by SJC in the final plays of the game earned them the 25-11 win.

The Lightning were able to at least go down with a fight in the third and last set of the night. The visiting team brought the game within three points at both 17-14 and 23-20, but they were never able to take the lead. The Eagles took the set and subsequently the match with a 25-20 win.

Julianne Tierney (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) had 21 assists; Heather Ferchland (Selden, N.Y./ Centereach) had six kills while Courtney Wickline (Medford, N.Y./ Bellport) defended the back line with six digs.

The Lady Golden Eagles will travel to Mahwah, New Jersey on Saturday to compete in a non-conference tournament at Ramapo College.
