Heather Ferchland Named ECAC Metro Volleyball Player of the Week

Player of the Week

Heather Ferchland – St. Joseph's (L.I.), Jr., MH, Selden, N.Y.

Ferchland registered a .479 hitting percentage over 13 sets to earn ECAC honors. In a 3-0 sweep of CCNY, the junior middle hitter collected 18 kills on just 19 attempts for an impressive .947 hitting percentage.

Libero of the Week

Sue Riley – Rutgers – Newark, Fr., Rahway, N.J.

Riley totaled 69 digs, averaging 5.75 digs per set. The rookie libero recorded a career-high 31 digs during a 3-1 defeat by Baruch. In the Scarlet Raiders' victory over St. Joseph's (LI), Riley tallied 26 digs.

Co-Rookies of the Week

Julia Connolly – Hunter College, Fr., OH, Deer Park, N.Y.

Connolly notched 57 kills and 47 digs last week as the Hawks finished 4-1. The rookie averaged 3.56 kills per set over 16 sets.  

Fabiola Padilla Rios – The College of New Rochelle, Fr., OH, San Juan, P.R.

Padilla Rios notched 37 kills and 61 digs, including two double-double performances. The freshman outside hitter tallied a double-double in the Blue Angels' 3-0 sweep over St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn, recording 10 kills and tallying a match-high 17 digs. She finished the weekend recording another double-double after collecting 10 kills and 21 digs.

Player of the Week

Jackie Gibbons – Carnegie Mellon University, So., OH, Philadelphia, Pa.

Gibbons led Carnegie Mellon to a 4-1 week, including a 3-1 win over fifth-ranked University of Mount Union. In that victory, the sophomore middle blocker collected a career-high nine blocks (two solo, seven assists) while notching six kills. Gibbons finished the week with a .273 hitting percentage, 31 total kills and 23 blocks.

Libero of the Week

Julia Mouch – Bethany College, Jr., Toledo, Ohio

Mouch played solid defense for the Bison during a 2-0 week, tallying 51 digs in just six sets. In the two 3-0 victories, the junior libero averaged 8.5 digs per set.

Rookie of the Week

Naya Cheatem – Frostburg State University, Fr., OH, York, Pa.

Cheatem slammed 23 kills in six sets last week to earn ECAC honors. The freshman outside hitter posted a .422 hitting percentage.

New England

Player of the Week

Alyssa Jasper – Worcester State University, Sr., OH, Rockland, Mass.

Jasper tallied an impressive 70 kills over 16 sets last week. The senior outside hitter recorded 27 kills, 22 digs and three aces in a 3-2 win over Rhode Island College. The Rockland, Mass. native added 25 kills, 16 digs and three aces in a 3-2 victory over Wentworth College. Jasper averaged 17.5 kills, 12.5 digs and 2.5 aces in a 4-0 week for the Lancers.

Emily O'Reilly – Rivier University, Jr., S, San Francisco, Calif.

O'Reilly dished out 155 assists for an average 9.69 assists per set in a 4-1 week for Rivier. The junior setter also contributed 16 kills, a .441 attack percentage and 1.88 digs per set.

Libero of the Week

Bethany Trevino – Rivier University, Fr., Westminster, Colo.

Trevino totaled 79 digs on the week for an average 4.94 digs per set. The freshman libero from Westminster, Colo. added 12 service aces to help Rivier to a 4-1 week.

Rookie of the Week

Nicole Connolly – Regis College, Fr., MB, San Mateo, Calif.

Connolly helped the Pride to a 2-2 week, averaging 2.75 kills and 2.50 digs per set. The freshman outside hitter totaled 33 kills and 30 digs over 12 sets last week.
