Volleyball's Win Streak Quacked by Stevens Ducks

Hoboken, N.J. - After four consecutive victories, the Lady Golden Eagles (12-7, 4-0 Skyline) slipped up in a 3-0 loss to the Stevens Institute Ducks (20-4) in a non-conference game on Wednesday night at Canavan Arena.

The first set of Wednesday's matchup signaled a disastrous night for St. Joseph's College as the Ducks crushed the Golden Eagles 25-5.

In the second set, the Golden Eagles were able to fight back into the competition, eventually gaining a 20-14 lead over Stevens.  The lead came after the Golden Eagles went on a hot streak outscoring their opponents 10-4.  However, the Lady Eagles weren't able to maintain the lead for the entire match ultimately losing in heart-breaking fashion, 25-27.

Similar to the first set, the third set was filled with strong play by the Ducks.  The Ducks started the match with an eight point run over the Eagles. The lead proved to be too commanding to overcome as SJC fell in the final match, 16-25.

On the day, SJC's Julianne Tierney (Bethpage, N.Y. / Bethpage) tallied 15 assists, Heather Ferchland (Centereach, N.Y. / Centereach) smashed down nine kills, and Erin Kelly (Ridge, N.Y. / Longwood)  led the Eagles defense with 15 digs.

Ferchland, an SJC co-captain, ranks first in the Skyline Conference in hitting percentage (.336), kills (216), and points (256).

St. Joseph's looks to keep their unbeaten Skyline Conference record intact as they travel to take Troy, N.Y. to take on the College of Mount Saint Vincent (10-10,  3-0 Skyline) and Sage College (19-4, 5-0 Skyline) in a Skyline Conference tri-match this Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
