Volleyball's Ferchland Wins Skyline Player of Year, Tierney & Wickline Named All-Skyline

New York, N.Y. – Junior middle hitter Heather Ferchland of St. Joseph's-L.I. has been named the 2014 Skyline Women's Volleyball Player of the Year in voting conducted among the Conference's ten head coaches.

The Skyline coaches also selected Maritime's Shannon Brady as the 2014 Rookie of the Year and Danielle De Stefano of Maritime as Coach of the Year.

Ferchland leads the conference with a .368 attack percentage while ranking second in kills (3.45 per game) and third in points (4.02 per game).  The Selden, N.Y., native earned four Player of the Week citations this season and has registered double-digit kills in 17 of the Golden Eagles' 29 matches on the year, including a career-best 27 kills versus Rutgers-Newark on Sept. 18.  Ferchland has compiled 60 digs and 26 service aces and is a three-time All-Conference selection.

Brady ranks first in the Skyline in kills (3.48 per game), second in points (4.02 per game) and is already the program's all-time leader in kills with 320.  A three-time Skyline Rookie of the Week selection and first-team All-Conference honoree, the Bayport, N.Y., resident is also averaging 2.20 digs per game and has four performances with at least 20 kills this season.

Joining Brady and Ferchland on the All-Conference first-team are teammates Rachel Martin, Helen Putriment and Siena Wilder of Sage; Mount Saint Vincent's Ashleigh Scozzari; Rachel Sabatini of Mount Saint Mary; and Julianne Tierney of St. Joseph's-L.I.

The second-team All-Conference includes Farmingdale State's Maia Cadle-Hinton and Sarah Palladino; Rachel Liebig of Sage; Mount Saint Mary's Chelsea Barberan and Kayla Kurka; Nicole Henderson of Mount Saint Vincent; and Courtney Wickline of St. Joseph's-L.I.

In her first season at Maritime, De Stefano guided the program to its first-ever berth in the Skyline Championship.  The Privateers' 12 victories are a single-season record and represent a 12-win improvement from a year ago.  De Stefano is a graduate of St. Francis College (N.Y.) with a degree in business management.
