Women’s Volleyball Downed 3-1 at Hunter

New York, NY| Senior Coutrney Wickline collected 22 assists and 14 digs as the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) volleyball team was handed a 3-1 defeat by Hunter College on the road on Tuesday evening. With the loss the Golden Eagles fall to 1-4 on the year as the Hawks improve to 5-4.

After dropping the first set 25-20, the Golden Eagles came out strong in the second frame and used a 9-3 run with the score tied 10-10 to pull ahead 19-13. Hunter clawed back and eventually tied the score up at 24, but a Courtney Bocchieri kill and an attacking error by the Hawks lifted the Golden Eagles to a 26-24 victory.

With the score 7-7 in the third set, Hunter used a 8-0 run to build a 15-7 lead before storming a to 25-15 win. In the fourth set, SJC surrendered an 11-10 advantage and fell behind 22-19 late before dropping the fourth and final frame 25-19.

Wickline's 22 assists were bested only by Hunter's Breanna Banske, and her 14 digs were second on the team to Danielle Senecal's 16.

Kiersten Kissinger was credited with a team-best 10 kills, and Claire Urizzo contributed six of her own. Brianna Wolf and Erin Kelly served up a team-high three service aces.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, September 16 when they host Montclair State (8:00 PM) on the first day of the St. Joseph's College Tournament, which runs through Saturday. SUNY Cortland and SUNY Old Westbury are set to compete in the annual invitational as well. Live stats for all contests available here.
