Patchogue, NY| Despite a strong first-set effort, the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of New York University inside the Danzi Center on Tuesday evening. With the loss, the Golden Eagles slip to 2-7 on the year as the Violets improve to 10-3.

After falling behind 6-4 early in the first set, SJC used a 8-2 run to pull ahead 12-8 following a Morgan Tiska kill. Later, down 15-14, the Golden Eagles took three of the next four points to inch back in front, 17-16, but a 9-4 run by NYU pulled the guests ahead and on to a 25-21 victory.

The Violets maintained momentum in the second half and cruised to a 25-10 set two win, highlighted by a overpowering 14-2 run, but it was SJC that jumped out to an early 10-4 lead in the third set. Later, up 12-8, the Golden Eagles allowed NYU back into the frame after succumbing to a 5-1 run which tied the set at 13.

SJC grabbed two of the next three points to go back ahead one (15-14), but it would be the last lead of the evening for the hosts, as NYU turned up the heat and stormed to a 25-18 set three win to clinch the 3-0 match sweep.

Senior Kiersten Kissinger collected a team-best seven kills for the Golden Eagles, while fellow classmate Courtney Bocchieri and junior Claire Urizzo contributed five and four, respectively.

Sophomore Danielle Senecal was credited with a team-high 11 digs and junior Courtney Wickline dished out a game-best 18 assists.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday, September 25 when they travel to Baruch College to face Yeshiva University and the College of Mt. St. Vincent for a Skyline Conference tri-match. Live stats will be available here.
