Women’s Volleyball Sweeps CCNY for First WIn of Season

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's volleyball team earned its first victory of the season on Monday evening after sweeping non-conference rival CCNY inside the Danzi Center.

With the win the Golden Eagles improve to 1-2 on the year as the Beavers slide to 2-4.

SJC jumped out to an early 6-1 lead and later, up 18-17, captured seven of the first set's last eight points to earn a 25-8 victory.

In the second set the Golden Eagles scooped up the final five points to win 25-15, and in the third used a 9-1 run to complete 25-11 set and 3-0 match wins.

St. Joseph's offense--which hit .329 in the match--was led by senior Morgan Tiska, who collected a game-best 10 kills. Freshman Kaitlin Williams and senior Claire Urizzo contributed five kills apiece.

Senior Jessica Monteserrato and freshman Brionna Silva each dished out a game-best 12 assists, and junior Danielle Senecal led all players with 11 digs.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, September 15 when they face FDU-Florham (6:00 pm) and the University of Scranton (8:00 pm) at the Roadrunner Invitational in Mahwah, NJ. Live stats for both matches will be available here.
