Women’s Volleyball Drops Non-Conference Affair to Hunter

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's volleyball team was handed a 3-0 loss by non-conference rival Hunter College inside the Danzi Center on Wednesday evening.
The defeat sees the Golden Eagles slip to 1-7 on the season as the Hawks improve to 8-1.
Hunter opened strong and used a 9-0 run midway through the first set to pull ahead 17-5 en route to a 25-13 victory.
St. Joseph's kept pace early in the second and was within two points (7-5), but the Hawks turned up the heat and grabbed eight of the next 10 points to go ahead 15-9. From there Hunter went for six-straight points and eventually earned a 25-17 win.
The Golden Eagles would take an 8-6 lead in the third frame and later used a 4-0 run to pull ahead 16-15.
Up 19-18, SJC allowed Hunter to rattle off three-straight points, but the next two went to the hosts to knot the score back up (21-21).
With the set up for grabs, it was the Hawks that seized the opportunity and scored four of the last five points to earn a 25-22 third-set victory a three-set sweep.
SJC's attack was led by Claire Urizzo, who recorded a team-best seven kills. The senior was also credited with three blocks and three digs.
Junior Danielle Senecal anchored the defense and collected a team-high 10 digs.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, September 23 when they hosts Baruch College and Manhattanville College in a non-conference tri-match inside the Danzi Center. SJC opens the action vs. Baruch at 10:00 am and wraps the afternoon with a 2:00 pm match vs. Manhattanville. Live stats for all matches will be available here.
