Women's Volleyball Slips to Shenandoah, 3-1

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's volleyball team dropped its second straight match to start the 2018 season Saturday afternoon at the Danzi Center. The Golden Eagles fell to Shenandoah College 3-1 and slip to 0-2 overall with the Hornets evening out at 1-1.

SU jumped to an early lead taking sets one and two by scores of 25-19 and 25-14, respectively.

SJC trailed early in set three, 6-1, but continued to chip away eventually tying the score at 13. The Golden Eagles began to pull away with a 20-14 edge, but the Hornets came back knotting the game at 23 before back-to-back kills from Jessica Young captured the 25-23 victory sending the match to the fourth set.

Neither side led by more than four in the fourth set which featured nine lead changes and 13 tied scores. The Hornets were first to 20 on a kill from Emily Cheatwood. Both teams exchanged points down the stretch each taking turns with the one-point advantage, but the visitors managed to close out the match on three straight kills for the 27-25 set win.

Young and sophomore Kaitlin Williams let the Golden Eagles at the net with ten kills and three block assists. Williams completed a double-double with ten digs. Sophomore setter Toni Parente tossed a game-high 30 assists and senior Danielle Senecal led all players with 21 digs.

Cheatwood and Harris led the Hornets with 15 kills apiece. Harris added a team-high 18 digs with Nicole Shannon pitching in with 17. Setters Megan Hillyard and Emily Veach recorded 20 and 18 assists, respectively.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, September 7 when they travel to the Misericordia Tournament and take on Willson College at 6:00 pm.
