Women's Volleyball Topped By USMMA, 3-1

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's volleyball team opened Skyline Conference play with a 3-1 loss to the United States Merchant Marine Academy Tuesday evening at the Danzi Center.

The Golden Eagles even out at 6-6 on the season (0-1 Skyline) and the Mariners move to 5-5 (1-0 Skyline).

St. Joseph's led the match early with a 25-22 win in set one, but USMMA came back with wins in the next three sets by scores of 25-22, 25-27 and 25-13, respectively.

Freshman Amanda Goldstein led the Golden Eagles with nine kills and a .375 hitting percentage.  Sophomore Jessica Young added eight kills and two blocks. Setter Toni Parente tossed 14 assists and libero Danielle Senecal finished with a match-high 22 digs.

Taylor Gilbertson led the Mariners with a double-double of 20 kills and 16 digs. Kate Lefler pitched in with a double-double of her own of 14 kills and 12 digs. Setter Kyleigh Kappas dished 37 assists and libero Nicole Ibinson recorded 21 digs.

The Golden Eagles continue Skyline Conference action when they travel to St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn on Thursday, September 27. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
