XC Trio of Wersan, Waka and Zigrosser Win ECAC Metro Runner of the Week Honors

Corvias ECAC Men's Cross Country Runners of the Week (for the week ending September, 21, 2014).

MEN

Division III – Metro 

Runner of the Week

Brian Wersan – St. Joseph's (L.I.), Senior, Holbrook, N.Y.

Wersan finished second overall at the Bard Invitational over the weekend with a time of 25:22. The runner-up finish led a Golden Eagles team to a second-place finish in the 20-team field.

Rookie of the Week

Dale Johnson - The College of New Jersey, Freshman, West Deptford, N.J.

Johnson earns ECAC Honors after competing at Richard Stockton's Osprey Open. The freshman crossed the finish line fourth in a field of 108 competitors, with a time of 26:22.33 over 8K. Johnson registered the fastest time of any rookie in the race.

Division III – New England

Runner of the Week

Ryan Moran - WPI, Senior, Pembroke, Mass.

Moran finished third in a field of more than 250 competitors at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday. The senior completed the five-mile course in a time of 25:06.02 to help the Engineers finish second out of 34 scoring teams.

Rookie of the Week

Brian Amaral - Fitchburg State, Sophomore, Tewksbury, Mass.

Amaral finished 12th at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational with a time of 25:37.

Division III – Upstate

Runner of the Week

Mike Scher - SUNY New Paltz, Senior, New York, N.Y.

Scher was the top finisher for the Hawks at Saturday's UMass-Dartmouth Invtiational, placing 13th in the 255-runner-field. The senior co-captain turned in a time of 25:45.7, averaging 5:09.2 a mile.

Rookie of the Week

Steven Cohen - Union, Freshman, Short Hills, N.J.

Cohen came in fifth place at the Bard Invitational 8K with a time of 25:34 in a race of 173 runners. The rookie runner helped the Dutchmen claim the team title at the event.

Division III – South

Co-Runners of the Week

Dillon Farrell - Moravian, Senior, North Wales, Pa.

Farrell was the top Division III finisher and finished fourth overall in the 4K short-race at the Dickinson College Long/Short Invitational with a time of 12:01.25.

Brandan Moretton - Sophomore, Saint Vincent College, North Huntingdon, Pa.

Moretton led the Bearcats with a fourth-place individual finish (27:34.0) at Saturday's Saint Vincent Invitational. The sophomore's performance helped the hosts to a second-place team finish.

Rookie of the Week

Jacob Parsons - Penn State Behrend, Freshman, Titusville, Pa.

Parsons led the Lions at the Dickinson Invitational with an 8K time of 27:37.15. The freshman placed 44th out of 233 runners.

WOMEN

Division III - Metro  

Co-Runners of the Week

Lauren Waka -St. Joseph's-L.I., Sr., Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.

Waka crossed the finish line with teammate AnnMarie Zigrosser at 18:16 to tie for first at the Bard Invitational. The first place time gave them the fastest time in team history at the Bard Invitational.

AnnMarie Zigrosser, St. Joseph's-L.I., Sr., Bayport, N.Y.

Zigrosser joins her teammate, Waka, as Runner of the Week after tying for first at the Bard Invitational. The first place time gave them the fastest time in team history at the Bard Invitational.

Rookie of the Week

Lucy Peschel – Ramapo College of NJ, Fr., Wayne, N.J.

Peschel finished the Roadrunner Cross Country Invitational with a time 20:47.8. The rookie earned a fifth place finish in a field of 80 runners.

Division III - South  

Runner of the Week

Emily Rabenold – Grove City College, Jr., Allison Park, Pa.

Rabenold earned a first place finish at the Dickinson Long-Short Invitational. The junior finished the course with a time of 22:31.39, 33 seconds faster than the eventual runner-up.

Rookie of the Week

Julie Gerber - Waynesburg University, Fr., Uniontown, Pa.

Gerber placed 12th in a 301-woman short course event. The rookie completed the 4K-course with a time of 14:59.85.

Division III - Upstate

Runner of the Week

Emma Jones – Rochester Institute of Technology, So., Rochester, N.Y.

Jones grabbed a second place finish at the Yellowjackets Invitational. Jones completed the 6K-course with an excellent time of 22:58.1.

Terisa Woych – SUNY New Paltz, Sr., Kingston, N.Y.

Woych turned in a time of 18:15.4 at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational. The senior earned a seventh place finish out of 272 runners.

Rookie of the Week

Lindsey Thiel – Alfred State University, Fr., Liverpool, N.Y.

Thiel claimed third place at the Houghton Invitational. The rookie completed the 5K-course in 19:59.49.
