Lady Golden Eagles Fly Above All at 2014 SJC Invitational, Men Finish Fourth

Kings Park, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College women's cross country team soared above all and finished in first place out of 29 total teams at the 2014 St. Joseph's College Invitational held at Sunken Meadow Park.  The Lady Golden Eagles placed five individual runners in the top twenty for a meet best 51 points.  The men's team took fourth place out of 28 total teams with four Golden Eagle runners within the top 34 spots.

Leading the way for the ladies was senior AnnMarie Zigrosser (20:50.19) in third place, junior Katie Scharrenbroich (21:08.00) in fifth and senior Lauren Waka (21:26.66 ) in tenth.  Also finishing in the top twenty were junior Samantha Maurice (14th - 21:39.58) and junior Brittany Guttieri (20th - 22:01.52).

On the men's side, senior Brian Wersan (28:10.00) led the Golden Eagles with a ninth place standing and broke his own school record for Sunken Meadow which he set last year (28:15 in 2013). Rounding out SJC's top competitors were sophomore Nick Diaz (26th - 29:25.00), junior Mike LoSchiavo (32nd - 30:00.50) and freshman Nick Morfesi (34th - 30:02.00).

The men's combined total time was 2:29:04 with an average of 29:48.70 on the 8,000 meter course at Sunken Meadow, which featured 224 runners.  The ladies total time was 1:47:06 and an average of 21:25.19 on the 5,000 meter trail that saw 230 runners.

St. Joseph's next competition is the 2014 Skyline Conference Championship meet which will be held next Sunday at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome in Milton, N.Y.  The men have won four consecutive Skyline championships and five out of the last six titles.  The women have also won four consecutive Skyline crowns and seven of the last eight titles.
