Cross Country Competes at Highlander XC Challenge

Newark, NJ| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's and men's cross country teams competed at the New Jersey Institute of Technology's Highlander XC Challenge at Branch Brook Park on Saturday afternoon and finished in fourth and seventh places, respectively.

In the women's 5k race, SJC earned 153 points and finished 123 points behind Lock Haven, which finished first in a field of 29 Division II and III teams.

Sophomore Meagan Haviland paced the Golden Eagles with a time of 19:27.0 and a 10th-place finish. Sophomore Cassidy Jacobus (20:21.0) and Caleigh Capek (20:26.0) took 34th and 35th, respectively.

The men compiled 221 points in the 8k race and competed against 31 Division II and Division III schools.

Junior Nick DeLuca was the men's team's best finisher having turned in a time of 27:25.0 for a 29th-place finish. Sophomore Thomas Newham (28:12.0) and freshman Dennis O'Rourke (28:21.0) were 45th and 47th, respectively.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, October 13 when they host the 19th Annual St. Joseph's Invitational at Sunken Meadow State Park (Kings Park, NY). The women's race kicks off at 1:00 pm.
