Women’s and Men’s Cross Country Win ECAC Championships

Milton, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's and men's cross country teams both placed first at the ECAC Championships at Hudson Valley Sports Dome on Saturday afternoon.

Additionally, junior Meagan Haviland of the women's team became the second runner in program history to win an ECAC individual championship, following in the footsteps of Erin MacDonell, who earned the honor two years ago.

For the women, it's their first title since winning the Skyline Conference championship in 2017, and for men, it's their first since their Skyline triumph in 2013.

Haviland paced the women's 6k race with a time of 25:24.20 and finished 38 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

Sophomore Caleigh Capek joined Haviland on the All-ECAC team with a 10th-place finish (27:10.20) and the trio of Sandra Vivar Marin, Julia Boris and Emily Venturi placed 17th, 18th and 19th, respectively, to bring SJC's point total to 55; eight more than second-place Farmingdale.

The SJC men were led by freshman Ryan Wilson, who followed up his Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year performance on Halloween with a third-place finish (27:56.80).

The men placed two other runners on the All-ECAC team in sophomore Dennis O'Rourke (6th) and freshman Matt Lopez (11th). The duo posted times of 28:08.70 and 28:46.90, respectively.

St. Joseph's (62 points) edged out second-place NYU (69 points) in the men's 8k race.

The Golden Eagles wrap up their 2019 season at NCAA Regionals on Saturday, November 16 at St. Lawrence University.
