Baseball Splits Conference Doubleheader With Mt. St. Mary, 9-3 & 4-3

Wappinger Falls, NY| On Monday night, The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) baseball team split a Skyline Conference doubleheader against Mount St. Mary, winning the opener, 9-3, before dropping the nightcap, 4-3, at Duchess Stadium in Wappinger Falls, NY.

Game 1
SJC 9, MSMC 3

An RBI single to right center and a sacrifice fly to left field in the bottom of the second and third innings gave the Knights (4-15, 2-4 Skyline) a 2-0 lead.

After a scoreless fourth and fifth inning, the Golden Eagles (11-7, 5-1 Skyline) responded back with four runs in the sixth inning. With the bases loaded, Anthony Raucci blasted a bases clearing triple to left center field to take a 3-2 lead. Dylan Piscitelli plated Raucci with a sacrifice fly to center field to take a two-run lead over MSMC (4-2).

In the following inning, with runners on the corners, LIU Post transfer Lou Doria doubled to left center to drive in Paul Britt and Matthew Burnet, Doria scored in the next at-bat courtesy of a Daniel Campanelli double to left field.

With two outs, in the top of the eight, Doria singled up the middle to tack on SJC's eighth run of the contest. Piscitelli added on an insurance run with a single to give the Golden Eagles a 9-2 lead.

The Knights added on a run in the home-half of the ninth but it was enough as SJC cruised to a 9-3 win.

Nick Clemente earned his third win of the season –a team high –tossing eight complete innings, allowing two runs on five hits, and striking out two on the ledger. Doria was responsible for six of SJC's nine runs going 3-for-5 driving in three runs and scoring three.

Game 2
SJC 3, MSMC 4

In the nightcap, a homerun by the Knights in the bottom of the second gave MSMC a 1-0 lead.

The Golden Eagles tied it at 1-all in the top of the fifth after an Anthony Bonilla single up the middle to plate Louis Fontinha.

The Knights tallied a run in back-to-back innings, in the fifth and fourth, to hold a 3-1 lead over the visitors.

Down by two in the last inning, Doria ripped a doubled down the right-field line to plate Britt and Burnett to send the game into the bottom of the 7th with a 3-3 tie.

With two on and one out in the bottom of the eighth, MSMC's Joey Pugliese doubled to right center to plate the game-winning run to give SJC its first conference loss of the year.

Anthony Caminiti was saddled with the loss, PJ Martino received the start tossing 6.1 innings allowing three earned runs and giving up four hits.

Piscitelli led the team in hits with his 3-for-4 day.
