Baseball Picks up Non-Conference Win

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College baseball team snapped a six game losing skid with a 12-5 non-conference victory over John Jay College at Gregg Alfano Field on Tuesday evening.

The Golden Eagles improve to 9-11 on the season as the Bloodhounds slide to 6-17.

St. Joseph's surrendered a pair of runs in the top of the first, but a three-run bottom half of the inning gave the Golden Eagles a lead that they would not relinquish.

A two-run third widened that gap to 5-2, but a bases loaded walk to John Jay's Jake Walton brought the Bloodhounds to within two, 5-3. SJC's Michael Ferrufino drove a two-RBI double to left in bottom half of the inning pushing the lead back to 7-3.

John Jay pushed a run across in the top of the sixth and seventh, but the Golden Eagles added five runs over the final three innings to cruise to a 12-5 win.

SJC's Jesse Nakashian finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a stolen base. Gehrig Montoro went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, three stolen bases and two run scored.

St. Joseph's Tyler Villez picked up the win allowing one run on two hits in 1.1 innings of relief. Starter Ryan Foran surrendered three runs on five hits in 4.2 innings of work. Elliot Robles, Bryan Lyons, and Kevin Yohe all made appearances.

John Jay's Marlon Hiciano suffered the loss after allowing three runs on one hit in one inning.

The Golden Eagles return to Gregg Alfano Field when they host the College of New Rochelle on Wednesday, April 3 at 5:00 pm.
