Bio

Richard Garrett enters his ninth season as the head coach of the St. Joseph's College (L.I) baseball team registering an overall record of 150- 110.

Last season, Coach Garrett guided his squad to a 15-9 overall record with a 13-5 finish in Skyline play earning a berth into the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament. Six Golden Eagles landed on Skyline All-Conference teams with two earning ABCA/Rawlings New York All-Region honors.

In 2018, the Golden Eagles finished with a 27-18 overall record with a 13-5 mark in conference play to capture the Skyline Conference regular-season and Championship Tournament title.  Four Golden Eagles were named to Skyline All-Conference teams as well as two ABCA/Rawlings New York All-Region selections. 

In 2016, the Golden Eagles posted a 25-13 overall record and earned the program’s second Skyline Conference Tournament title, first since 2004, and made their second appearance in the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament.

Coach Garrett has landed nine Golden Eagles on Skyline All-Conference teams including the Skyline Player of the Year and a D3Baseball.com All-NY Regional team selection in 2015. Garrett was named the Coach of the Year by his peers after guiding the Golden Eagles to the Skyline Conference Regular Season title in his second year at the helm. 

Richard Garrett was announced as the new head coach of the men’s baseball program on January 14, 2014.

Garrett takes over the Golden Eagles following a 17-year career at the helm of the highly successful program at St. Dominic High School in Oyster Bay.  Over the course of his tenure at St. Dominic, Garrett’s teams claimed four league titles, one Catholic league championship and became regarded as one of the top high school programs on Long Island.

“I feel truly blessed to have the opportunity to coach at St. Joseph’s College and to continue to build on a successful program,” said Garrett.  “As a program, we will build a strong foundation for our players based on work ethic, leadership, responsibility, and accountability.  This foundation will allow players to reach their full potential as Division III student-athletes.”

The Seaford resident has worked at St. Dominic in various administrative capacities since 1996.  He is also an accomplished educator having conducted classes at St. Dominic, Farmingdale State College and St. John’s University.  Garrett holds a master’s and bachelor’s degree from St. John’s and school district administrator (SDA) and school administrator supervisor (SAS) certificates from Hofstra University.

He lives in Seaford with his wife, Gina, and three children, Rebecca, Thomas and Jacqueline.
