Men's Lacrosse Falls to Kean on the Road

Union, NJ| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team dropped a 16-2 decision to Kean University on the road on Monday evening. The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 0-2 on the year as the Cougars improve to 1-0. 

Sophomore Anthony Passarella and senior Chris Nielsen tallied for SJC in the second and fourth quarters, respectively. Nielsen scooped up four ground balls, bested on the team only by junior Jesse McKeever, who was credited with five ground balls.

St. Joseph's was edged 16-5 in faceoffs with senior Declan Canevari faring best with three faceoff wins. The midfielder also picked up an assist on Nielsen's late tally.

Taking the loss in goal for the Golden Eagles was sophomore Andrew Brust (0-1), who made 11 saves on 24 shots in the first half. Junior Ryan Wheeler allowed three goals and made eight saves in the second.

Kean went up 4-0 in the first quarter, but SJC brought the hosts' run to a stop when Passarella opened the second quarter with his second goal of the season. The Cougars then surged for nine-straight goals in the second and carried a 13-1 lead into halftime.  

The Cougars added a pair of tallies in the third (15-1) and another inside the first minute of the fourth quarter (16-1) before Nielsen found the back of the net at 12:09 (16-2). 

SJC was outshot 52-14 in the contest and recorded 19 saves to Kean's four. The guests went 1-for-3 on man-up opportunities.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, March 7 when they host Marywood for a non-conference contest at 1:00 pm.
