Catholic Defeats Men’s Soccer in SJC Invitational

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team suffered a 7-0 defeat to Catholic University in the opening match of the annual SJC Invitational Tournament at Danzi Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Golden Eagles slip to 0-3 in the year as the Cardinals improve to 2-1.

Keeper Aydin Olgun (0-2) made his second start of the season in the loss and made five saves on 12 shots. Forward Rayneri Ruiz was credited with four of SJC's five shots in the contest. 

Catholic stormed to an early 3-0 lead when Ben Alexander scored three goals inside the game's opening 18 minutes. Jacob McDonald's 40th-minute tally ensured the guests went into the break up 4-0.

McDonald added a second nine minutes into the second and Daniel Dello capped off the afternoon's scoring with two tallies in the 62nd and 68th minutes.

In total, Catholic outshot SJC 15-5 and won four corners to St. Joseph's one. 

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, September 14 when they host Eastern Conn. St. for a non-conference contest at 12:00 pm.
