Men’s Soccer Drops Home Contest to Eastern Conn. on Saturday

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team dropped to 0-4-0 on the season when it took a 4-1 home loss to Eastern Connecticut State (5-0-0) at Danzi Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles dropped a 4-1 decision for the third time this season and enter Skyline Conference play next week winless.

Senior Rayneri Ruiz tallied his team-leading third goal in the contest in the 49th minute. The forward is the only SJC play to score this season.

Junior Tyler Flaherty (0-2-0) made six saves on 10 shots in goal for the Golden Eagles.

The Warriors opened the scoring in the 26th minute and rode their 1-0 advantage into halftime.

Ruiz knotted the score at one early in the second half when he beat the ECSU keeper from outside the box. Junior Vincent Raccuglia was credited with the assist on the goal.

The Warriors took back the lead just four minutes later when Patrick Agyemang beat Flaherty far side from the left, and the forward extended the guests' lead to two goals (3-1) in the 65th minute.

Andres Mayuri's 76th-minute tally capped off the afternoon's scoring and clinched a 4-1 win for the Warriors.

SJC was outshot 24-8 in the contest and won two corners to ECSU's eight.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, September 17 when they take on Yeshiva University in a Skyline Conference contest at Veterans Field Park (Edgewater, NY) at 7:30 PM.
