Golden Eagles Track & Field Bust More Marks at Roadrunner Tune-Up

New York, N.Y. - In preparation for next week's NJAC championships, the Golden Eagles competed with strength yet again at Friday's Roadrunner Tune-up at the New Balance Track & Field Center.

The last few competitions for Golden Eagles have proved the team's drive and desire — they've broken another three school records and another ECAC qualification has been granted.

Mario Mayen (Center Moriches N.Y./Center Moriches) qualified for ECAC's in another race — this time for the 500m, beating Max James' old record by over a second. Mayen must choose between the 400m and 500m when heading into ECAC's seeing as they are back-to-back events. He impressively placed fifth overall for the team's only points.

The 4x400m relay team brought fire to the track yet again, by breaking a record dating back to 2012. Mike O'Shea (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot), Mayen, Tim Elgort (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai) and Kevin Sanders (Wading River N.Y./ Shoreham Wading River) were the runners of this record breaking team.

It was another solid weekend for AnnMarie Zigrosser (Bayport, N.Y. / St. John the Baptist) as well. In her 3000m race she placed second and broke a school record, while also scoring the only points for the women's side. Today, she sits as the first seed in the 5000m in the NJAC's and ranked sixth in the 3000m as of Friday.

The Golden Eagles next battle is the NJAC Championship on Thursday, February 26 at the New Balance Track & Field Center. The team looks to find success and also prepare for the ECAC Championships that are just a few weeks away.
