Ashley Arquer Qualifies for ECAC’s as Track and Field Shines at Coach Omeltchenko Invitational

Kings Point NY| The St. Joseph's (L.I.) track and field team travel to Kings Point, NY for the Coach Omeltchenko Invitational on Sunday at Brooks Stadium, hosted by the US Merchant Marine Academy, on Sunday morning.

Ashley Arquer had her best showing of the season, qualifying for ECAC's and breaking a school record, in the 100-meter with a third-place time of 12.65. She would also place third in the long jump, breaking the school record and becoming the program's first female athlete to jump over the five meter mark, with a 5.03 leap.

Jessica Pierno finished just behind Arquer coming in fourth in the long jump with a 4.91 meter jump. Pierno, also broke the school record in the high jump, with a 1.40 meter leap, which was good enough for eighth place. The East Patchogue, NY native earned her best mark, a fourth place showing, in the shot put with a distance of 10.04 meters.

The 4x400-meter team of Jennifer Holownia, Samantha Maurice, Taylor Darby, and Jessica Pierno broke the school record once more with a sixth-place time of 4:15.40.

On the men's side, Nick Russo shattered the javelin school record with earning a first-place finish with a 49.68 meter launch.

Chris Maher, who also broke the program's record in the hammer throw, launched the hammer 39.92 meters.

The 4x100 meter team of Brian Frejka, Mike O'Shea, Daniel Antonawich, Nick Russo broke SJC's record with a 45.89 showing.

The two teams will travel to Philadelphia, PA for the Penn Relays which will begin on April 28 and will end on April 30th.
